There is no exact profile for someone who can benefit from Explorative Art Therapy. By design, ExArt Therapy can bend to fit anyone’s nature and needs, since the complexity and art form focus can vary so greatly. There is no art knowledge prerequisite. However, the desire to explore and learn will help move the sessions forward. And, with this desire, the innate ability to explore will manifest more fully with each session and result in the greatest benefits.
Some examples of those who will benefit from Explorative Arts Therapy are:
Someone who has never engaged in any arts and would like to use the arts to fuel more understanding of their self and their relationships with others.
Someone who is a proficient or professional artist in one modality and would like to use other arts to help inform their practice of their previously sole art form.
Someone who is just curious about art, exploration, and the therapeutic process.
Someone who is in great need of healing, either mental or physical, and who has tried everything else and had nothing work enough or even at all.
Someone who wants there to be more to life than the mundane but wants to bring excitement into their everyday life rather than simply escaping their life.
If you haven’t seen your own profile above and are disappointed, chances are explorative art therapy would still be a great match for you. The desire to explore is one of the most helpful prerequisites in explorative art therapy
